Monsters attack in 2012...

Well it's official, Tim Burton is developing a film version of the giant-monster board game Monsterpocalypse as a directing vehicle for himself, as several sites, including /Film and Dread Central, have reported...

Roy Lee will produce for Dreamworks, with frequent Burton collaborator John August writing the screenplay, while consulting Matt Wilson, who created the game. The film, which will most likely be released in 2012 in 3D, revolves around giant monsters who attack earth, and retreat after humans fight back. It is quickly discovered however, that they didn’t leave, but instead burrowed underground and are sending some sort of signal into space. The Earth prepares for a possible future attach by developing giant robots that will fight the monsters, if and when they return...

Of note to Lovecraft fans, the Lords of Cthul are among the monsters that populate the game version of
Monsterpocalypse, although it is unknown at this time whether they will see any screen time in the film...

interview with Roy Lee for more...
